Named after
Waterman S. Body who discovered gold there in 1859,
Bodie was once the largest city in California home to
about 10,000 people. It was an unforgiving western town
complete with nightly gun fights, stage coach ambushes
and bank robberies. At one time there was a count of 65
saloons in Bodie encouraging bad habits of gambling,
prostitution and opium dens. The towns’ hey day lasted
until 1882 when it started to take a turn for the worse.
Two fires, one in 1892, the other 1932, wiped out many
of the 2, 000 buildings as 200 remain. Today, Bodie is
in a state of arrested decay as it is preserved by the
State Parks system. Come and see for yourself and walk
the streets of history. The room does not have a
telephone or TV, so it will not interfere with your
enjoyment of the rustic lodge experience. Wireless
internet access is not available inside the room, but
wireless internet access is available in the grassy area
outside of the room, as well as the registration lobby,
business center, and restaurant.
